Mental Health and Wellbeing

  • We have started our journey into a Whole School Approach to Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing. Our vision for this is to improve and ensure that the Mental and Emotional Health and Wellbeing of all stake holders is as high as it can be with resources available to us.
  • Why are we doing it? Our pupils at Maesycwmmer Primary School are at the core of everything we do so we want them to be healthy confident individuals and for that to happen then we also need to help our families wherever possible. In order for us to do this and give the best possible education to our pupils our whole staff also need to be supported. Finally for the school to be led by informed governors we need to involve them in every day school life when possible.

What do we already do in Maesycwmmer Primary School to support all our stake holders in their mental health and emotional wellbeing.

  • Pupils - Jigsaw, sporting events, PE lessons, daily mile, ELSA, Buddy system, Young Leaders, enriched curriculum, extra-curricular activities, SEAL, fruit tuck shop, Manor Adventure, School trips, achievement assemblies, outside agencies such as Crucial Crew, handwashing workshops, fun days e.g Children in Need.
  • Parents - Parents open sessions, parents evenings, Seesaw for constant communication, class assemblies, concerts, events such as coffee mornings, Party in the Park etc
  • Staff - Check ins with Mr Harris, Staff twilight time given to Wellbeing, positive staff relationships, continuous professional development.
  • Governors - Governor days, governor meetings, AOLE presentations to governors, link governor meetings and contact.

What have we done so far regarding Whole School Approach to Mental Health?

  • A presentation to parents and governors by Mr Barnett on the WSAMH process was held.
  • We have sent out surveys to all of our stake holders including pupils, parents, staff and governors.
  • From here we will look at the feedback from the survey along with evidence and policies etc from the school to RAG rate the toolkit, the toolkit document is arranged in sections, we have focused on section A first.
  • Then an action plan with steps forward for section A has been produced and implementation has began.

What is next?

  • Now as we implement the steps from the above action plan to make our provision for Health and Wellbeing even better, we will move our focus onto the other areas of the toolkit and complete a similar process.
  • Our action plans and findings will be presented to parents and governors in our next meeting.

We are also really fortunate to have one of out Governors Hywel George who has kindly offered his time to assist with the WSAMH in the school, please see the page below for more details.
