Who are the Eco Warriors?
- Evelyn and Dewi in year 5 are our head warriors and
are supported by two children from every class including two from our head pupil group. - Almost every member of staff have a role within our Eco journey with all staff having a responsibility to up hold the values set by the Eco Warriors.
What are we up to in school to help towards making our school a successful Eco school?
- Reviews of the environment and other aspects of Eco Schools have been carried out by children and staff.
- Termly actions plans have been written to address some of the areas of weakness identified by the Eco Warriors.
- Then the head Eco Warriors supported by the younger warriors deliver an assembly with Mr Barnett to raise awareness of our actions and targets often with a Canva or video.
- Actions over the last few months have involved litter picking, minimizing waste, less printing when possible, recycling, walk to school week, saving energy in school and at home.
- The warriors then meet a few weeks later to judge the progress and impact of their actions on the environment or targeted Eco aspect.
- We are constantly monitoring and trying our best to improve, having a greater impact on the environment around us.

Why are we so invested in Eco Schools?
- All at Maesycwmmer realise the impact of our own and others action on the world around us.
- Climate change has and will continue to affect all of us at Maesycwmmer and when we say us, we mean everyone and every living thing.
- We are fortunate enough to have a vast green space that is home to many forms of wildlife from plants and animals to newts and tadpoles in our school pond. We want to give our wildlife the best chance of thriving and in turn giving our learners the best authentic education possible.
- Staff see how Eco Schools can be easily added into our vision of the new curriculum and notice the impact this has on our learners.
- We plan at least one topic a year within our enriched curriculum to be heavily influenced by Eco and the outdoors.
How do we engage with our community?
- Everything that we create as part of Eco we share with our parents on Seesaw and wider audience on X.
- Can you help? This has been sent out on social media platforms. We are looking for donations for our school garden:
