Summer Term 2026

This term, our Reception and Year 1 class will be diving into our exciting new topic, What Lies Beneath… The Ocean?

Through stories, art, role play, music, and hands-on investigations, the children will explore the fascinating underwater world. We will discover a range of sea creatures and their habitats, learn about life beneath the waves, and use our imaginations to describe and create our own ocean environments. Using engaging texts such as Somebody Swallowed Stanley, we will also begin to understand the importance of looking after our oceans and the impact of pollution on marine life.

Throughout the topic, children will develop their literacy skills through descriptive writing, storytelling, and creative activities. In science, we will explore materials and learn about the importance of clean water for living things. Our expressive arts work will focus on creating ocean-themed artwork using a variety of techniques and materials.

This topic will inspire curiosity, creativity, and a sense of responsibility as children learn about the wonders of the ocean and how we can help protect our world.
