Welcome to Year 2/3!

Our class is made up of 24 fantastic pupils. Mr Coupland is the class teacher, with Miss Phillips supporting as well.

Autumn Term 2026: Heritage Hunters – Houses through the ages

During our Heritage Hunters: Houses Through the Ages topic, pupils will explore how homes in Wales have changed throughout history, from early shelters and Iron Age roundhouses to Roman villas, Victorian homes and the Rhyd-y-Car Terrace at St Fagans National Museum of History. Through Languages, Literacy and Communication, children will develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills by researching historical homes, locating information in non-fiction texts and presenting their findings. They will take part in discussions, role-play, interviews and information presentations before creating their own informative writing. Our learning will also develop Mathematics and Numeracy through measuring, reasoning and problem-solving, while Humanities will help children investigate chronology, Welsh history, communities and the lives of people in the past. In Science and Technology, pupils will explore materials and forces, investigating how different building materials are chosen and used to make homes strong, safe and suitable for their environment.

Children will also develop their creativity, health and wellbeing throughout the topic. In Expressive Arts, they will explore houses through art, music and drama, creating illustrations, models, soundscapes and performances inspired by different periods in history. Health and Well-being will be developed through teamwork, communication and physical activities, including health-related exercise, orienteering, throwing and catching, and multi-skills linked to our Heritage Hunters theme. Digital skills will be developed through researching, recording and presenting information using a range of technology. A highlight of the topic will be our link with St Fagans National Museum of History, where pupils will explore the Iron Age Roundhouse and Rhyd-y-Car Terrace, bringing their learning about Welsh homes and communities to life.
